Emily Pearlman

Artistic Director

Emily works across disciplines as a writer, performer, director and dramaturg.

As a writer/performer, she has toured her award winning solo shows Swimming Lessons with Paisley Kite, Radio Collar and Free Range across the country on the Canadian Fringe circuit. In new performance creation her experience includes work as director and/or dramaturg with playwrights, poets, DIY theatre collectives, dancers, film-makers and sound artists. She has produced art festivals, created radio documentaries for CBC, been a professional weight guesser, taken the Greyhound from Ottawa to Mexico City and worked on an organic farm in Spain. She considers all these experiences equally useful when working with Mi Casa and teaching play creation at universities and colleges.

Emily is a 2009 Prix Rideau Emerging Artist Award winner and Outstanding Performer nominee. She holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Performance Creation from Simon Fraser University, a BFA in Theatre and Religious Studies from Concordia and has also studied performance creation with One Yellow Rabbit in Calgary and Pig Iron in Philadelphia.
